I just reached the section on Lauism and "Dudeism". I am reminded of the Angry Germans screaming "We are Nihlists, Lebowski! We believe in Nothing!" and being struck by how it is a perfect encapsulation of how we root our sense of identity in conceptual terminology, staying on the surface of meaning, and thus essentially saying nothing when words come out of our mouths. Oh dear... and there was also a character named Jesus, and a guy who converted to Judaism... I'm going to have to rewatch that movie through the lense of it being a philosophical treatise, aren't I? Thank you for the homework ❤

I have an idea for a video compilation and I really want to see it, but with two small kids, I just don't have the time to splice it myself. It's just 1 solid hour of Chris getting smacked around. It would have chapters of a sort, such as: Chris getting punched in the neck. Chris getting punched in the liver. Chris getting face peeled. Chris getting thrown. Chris getting hit with dirty stuff, (eye wipes, skin grabs, weird pressure points). And "Sorry, Chris" compiling everytime Adam says the line with that tiny hint of a Canadian accent in the "Soorry". Edit: I nominate Chris for GOAT demo partner. I really mean that. I'm such a bad demo partner sometimes. I'm resisting when I shouldn't, forgetting what I'm even supposed to do for the demo, mixing up my right and left, or getting flustered and letting every fundamental bad habit that I used to have suddenly reappear. You are awesome, Chris!

Outstanding instruction. Love the idea of moving in small steps to get the right angle and to take an opponents balance.

    • @hipotonomous

My initial reaction to this top comment was "Well yeah, of course. Step small, change the angle, take his balance." That's exactly what I was always taught, and try to do. It's pretty fundamental stuff. Then, that part of the demo played... Yeah, I see what you mean. That's what I attempt to do, but the way Adam pulls it off is so good. It was sneaky, subtle, effective, and I dig it. It's just fundamentals distilled and applied, but so, so good.

So, I have to say I love that you're exploring Xingyi more (would love to see more of these in the future). I would appreciate it even more if you could go into more detail on the footwork and stepping. To clarify, I had trained in many different martial arts and assumed I understood the angling and stepping of the footwork until I found a good school in my area recently. I know this is dependent on the school/style of Xingyi, but the way the initial step with the front foot is in line, but the rear foot comes up to the SanTi stance (which has about a fist width along that axis between the feet) creates a zig zag pattern almost opposite to what I was used to. I'm slowly grasping how that unique stepping allows you to enter the opponent's Zhong Men ("central door") to both make attacks available, but it also puts the line of the opponent's feet perpendicular to your own. Just pushing in this direction totally neutralizes the structure of their stance making counters extremely difficult. At any rate, I'm curious about your take on it! Thanks again!

Although what he is saying in this video is interesting, I am currious as to how any of this information is actually fact or kind of woven into what is little known to partually known about taoisms the history ? I know tha tthe CHinses opeople hold back almost all of ther history and much of it has also been destriys especailly the Taoist ways from conquering Armies the ywoudl come in and distry every thign they coudl find only a few actual taosit Texts escaped China ifg I rememebr corre ctly Huashan which I think was the japanese invasion , I knwo this becassue one of the people I have met was a Taosit Monk who was ordered form the rest at the temple he was at to leave CHina will all the teaching he could take with him go the the US . and after he had left the burned and destroyed killed off everyone and most of everything. but that was only one temple mind you. but all of that history and treeachign would have been lost whic his why I am curious where the information spoken in this video came from ;). I think of the Tao in simplest way is Nature and then we havbve huamns humans are about controling NAuter is about balance this is why as humans we will porbably never get reach the Tao until Death or birth losely thinkl9ign meditation is about nture its about lettign things flow naturally adn sometimes this wil ltake time t ojust be and let be thre is not good or bad or evil it just is but as humans we have perspective wihich is in some ways a fault as humans so wh the nhave wha tis good or bad or evil from that perspecitve taosinm as far as I have udnerstoof oevr the last few deaces is find that balance in nauitre not our nature but nature as a whiole long ago people better understood this and stepped otu of being huimand t obetter understand nature or the Tao. of course I have very simplfied my understanding of Taoism, the whole expression of the Tao that can be understood isnt the Tao ( losely phrased ) is becasue we are humans so we will never uinderstand this until Death or when we are born on deat hwe let go whe nborn we know nothing but nature

5:31 this drunk bloke hit me in the face, and I did a triple straight punch, quick and direct to his centreline, I didn't think I would use it wing chun in a real combat situation, and the last one I put a hsing yi twist in it, he screamed like a girl and i didn't even finish the last punch properly cos the last one got interrupted by his scream, it scared the shit out of me, I thought I killed him, he buckled straight away, they were peircing punches, I got scared and doubled back, and just warned him in verbal anger not to hit me in the face. I never new why I always trained the centreline, in forms, drills ETC. And that day I under stood the centreline. I'm scared of attacking, bcos, before wingchun I just probaly would of threw helicopter hay makers, and just scraped him and just pisee him off, but wingchun nearly killed him, and he respected me after that, it felt like at the end of the fearless (jetli movie) when he hit that master in the restaurant, on his birthday, he hit his heart, and killed him, and then he done it to the jap at the end, and pulled up halfway through it, and the jap felt the internal power, and thought that would could of killed me if he, eliminated that he felt it.
